Seemingly light-hearted follow-up to DJ and label boss (Peacefeast and Tummy Touch) Lee's 1997 debut Confessions Of A Selector. The Continuing Confessions Of Tim "Love" Lee The Man Who's Been Everywhere But In Love, (like Lee's pop or public identity) hungers for a 1970s-tinged, disco or porn star's ennui. The record, insists Lee, "is a heartfelt plea for a little romance in a whirlwind world of international jet travel, discotheques and late-night encounters." Although its core elements are more otherworldy as tracks combine "serious" jazz and funk licks with Sergio Leone landscapes and exotic or lounge borrowings. The results are remarkably novel - "Twilight Reservation"' with it's world-weary crooner suggests a drunken Dean Martin lost in Clint Eastwood's desert. The LP is steeped in fantasy with sound effects, cocktail pianos, Latin rhythms and sampled voices creating a sonic cinema that recalls KLF's Chill Out. And perhaps more beautiful and original than its wry title suggests.-- Tony Marcus
