Rumina Asagi, the hero of the broadcast series Tokyo Underground (2002), wants a sweetheart and a peaceful high school career. But the teenage martial artist and his nerdy friend Gennosuke begin an unexpected adventure when they encounter Chelsea and Ruri, two girls on the lam from the hidden realm of the Underground. Beneath Tokyo live the abandoned members of a scientific team who have supernatural powers over such elements as water, fire, and gravity. They need Ruri to resurrect some dragon-like monsters so they can take revenge on the world above ground. Rumina falls for Ruri like a bento box full of rocks. He rushes to her defense--and discovers he can command the wind, the element no one underground can master. Tokyo Underground recycles elements from numerous other series; it's not terrible, but it feels like a rerun, even on the first viewing. (Rated 13 and older: violence) --Charles Solomon
