Chaos reigns in the Masaki household! First, Washu, the resident mad-scientist attempts to make an android genius modeled after herself, but Mihoshi adds her own touch and soon they find themselves in a life-and-death struggle with a maniacal mad-scientist mecha-air-head! Then, Ryoko's past comes back to haunt her when the top bounty hunter in the Galaxy, Naga, comes looking for Ryoko... It's a showdown old west style! In "No Need for a Genius!" one of Washu's experiments goes awry and produces the most terrifying monster since the Marshmallow Man attacked in "Ghostbusters": a robot with her formidable powers--and the brain of bubble-headed Galactic Police Officer Mihoshi. Happily, Kiyoni manages to defuse the situation before too much damage is done. Events take a sentimental turn in "No Need For Memories": a rare snowfall brings recollections of the day Tenchi's mother died. As everyone else has drunk too much sake, Sasami has to care for the stricken Tenchi with the help of robots Azaka and Kamidake: Jurai medicine cures him. The arrival of Ryoko's archrival, the bounty hunter Nagi, raises hob at the Masaki family shrine. She kidnaps Tenchi as bait for Ryoko, leading to a duel in a Western town Washu creates on Venus. Worried about Tenchi's fate as the face-off begins, Ayeka calls out, "Ryoko, I don't care if you die, but don't lose, OK?" Things eventually get sorted out, but not before cabbit/spaceship Ryo-Ohki falls in love with Nagi's Ryo-Ken. This first broadcast series is even sillier than Tenchi Muyo! but every bit as much fun. Rated for ages 13 and up for cartoon violence and drinking. --Charles Solomon
