What do you do if you're about to get married and you've got cold feet? If you're Max Abbitt (David Schwimmer), you ask your best friend Jay (Jason Lee) to sleep with your fiancee. Max, a sportscaster dedicated to playing the field, and the beautiful, intelligent Samantha Andrews (Mili Avital) are a mismatch made in heaven. Jay, who recently had his heart broken, couldn't be unhappier for them. Before he knows it, Max is giving up swinging singlehood, but the thought of one woman for the rest of his life suddenly throws Max into a panic. Max reasons that if Samantha cheats on him first, he'll be off the hook. When he asks Jay to help him "test" the relationship, not only does Jay think Max is deranged, but Jay wants nothing to do with the schemes. Unfortunately, a little compromising finds Jay and Samantha and Max in an awkward position. Kissing a Fool, the romantic comedy about commitment, friendship and love in the '90s.This so-so romance is patently predictable. Will the good girl end up with the bad boy or the nice guy? The premise would have us believe that a sleazy, none-too-bright sportscaster (David Schwimmer) has fallen madly in love with a classy, intelligent book editor (Mili Avital). To test her loyalty, Schwimmer asks his best buddy (Jason Lee) to romance Avital. The likable aspects of this tired triangle concern the wraparound narration, featuring the ever-humorous Bonnie Hunt. She relates this complicated romance to rapt guests at a wedding. The marriage in question is between Avital and a supposed mystery man. The problem is that there is never much of a mystery. Or much of a romance. --Rochelle O'GormanSpecial Features Production Notes Cast and Filmmakers Theatrical Trailer
