Based on the novel "Kill the Poor" by Joel Rose. In 1982 Manhattan's Lower East Side was a cauldron overflowing with junkies and thieves, and ordinary working class people struggling to achieve the American Dream. When a young married couple, buy an apartment in a run-down building, the residents band together to protect their homes from the hostile streets outside. But there's one problem inside: a long-time squatter refuses to pay rent. This is a visceral drama about the price of gentrification, and the evolving heart and soul of New York City.
