Disbarred for deliberately throwing the case of a wealthy murderer, Lawson Russell (CUBA GOODING JR) is a prominent New Orleans defense lawyer who takes time off to write a book. He meets an elderly author who lends him his manuscript, ''A Murder of Crows'', the story of a man who kills five lawyers whose shady clients have been acquitted of numerous crimes. When Lawsom returns the manuscript, he learns that the author has died. Lawson submits ''A Murder of Crows'' for publication under his own name and the book becomes a huge hit. BUt as his star rises, New Orleans detective CLifford Dubose (TOM BERENGER) discovers that all the murders in the book are real. Overnight, Lawson changes from media hero to prime suspect. And no one is willing to take the case but himself.
