This digitally animated series comes from the team who produced BLUE SUBMARINE NO. 6 and GATE KEEPERS, two of the first animes to incorporate computer animation artfully and seamlessly into the finished product. VANDREAD finds the all male planet of Taraak in the midst of their perpetual battle with the female inhabitants of Mejale. In these episodes, Hibiki finds himself at odds with a troublesome merchant who has taken an unhealthy interest in the Vandread. Later, the Nirvana reaches a stranded human colony, where an alien attack forces Hibiki and Jura to form a Vandread. Product Details Number of Discs: 1 Rating: Not Rated Film Country: Japan UPC: 013023170599 Additional Details Genre: Action/Adventure Format: DVD As the pirate ship Nirvana visits different worlds, this sci-fi comedy-adventure begins to resemble a mixture of Crest of the Stars and Star Trek, with the robot 7-Zark-7 from Battle of the Planets thrown in. The crew meets Rabat and his ape sidekick on a deserted space station: he introduces the women of the Nirvana to cosmetics, beats up Hibiki, and then departs in "Impossible." The people of the water world of Anpathos worship a mysterious "harvester ship" apparently intent on devouring them--until Hibiki and Jura create a crablike mecha to destroy it. A Christmas party--a holiday unknown to Hibiki, Bart, and Duero--coincides with a visit to an ice comet in "White Love." Vandread offers some so-so computer-animated space battles, plenty of cleavage shots, and some broad comic moments, but these elements never gel into a coherent story. Rated 13 Up: Violence, risqué humor. --Charles Solomon From the Back Cover People Problems! Even human encounters mean trouble for the Nirvana! As if running from dangerous aliens wasn't heard enough, Hibiki makes an enemy out of Rabat, a trouble-making peddler with an unhealthy interest in Drita and the Vandred. Then, the Nirvana discovers a stranded human colony that awaits the prophesized "Munya." When the aliens attack, Hibiki and Jura finally combine to form a Vandread! Initially, Jura is not happy with the results, but soon finds that there is a certain elegance in being able to put a protective barrier around an entire planet. Finally, Christmas arrives on the Nirvana, but can you still have a white Christmas in space?
