Product Description Souvenirs is a remix album from Tosca aka Richard Dorfmeister & Rupert Huber that features remixes from Burnt Friedman, DJ DSL, Plantlife, Senor Coconut, Hans-Peter Lindsrtom, Henrik Schwarz, Frost & Urbs, Makossa and Megablast. G-Stone. 2006. The turntables are turned when the remixers get remixed on this re-versioning of Tosca's album J.A.C. Tosca (Rupert Huber and Richard Dorfmeister, the latter of Kruder & Dorfmeister) have lent out J.A.C. to a host of remixers, resulting in an album far more diverse than the original, chilled rendition--these remixes are by and large edgier, leaning more toward abstraction than groove and mood. From Lindstrom & Prins Thomas's dark, thumbslapping bass menace on "Zueri" to Senor Coconut's electro-Latin approach to "The Big Sleep," the music of J.A.C. winds up being a sturdy foundation for Gaudiesque variations. A couple of tracks get double-shot treatments that provide a studied contrast in remix aesthetic. Burnt Friedman of Flanger takes "John Lee Huber" and stokes it with prowling bass grooves and rhythms that threaten to molest you at every turn. Rodney Hunter takes the same track and turns it into a reggae dub celebration. Souvenirs isn't revelatory, but it is a kinetic blast. --John Diliberto
