In the exotic and turbulent Thailand of the 1930's, a saga of sex, guilt, retribution and love unfolds. Jan Dara is a young man whose mother died while giving birth. Raised as a bastard child, his youth is shaped by his domineering father's insatiable sexual appetite for all the women in the compound. At thirteen, his father accuses him of molesting his stepsister and casts him out of the manor. Years pass and Jan Dara is summonsed home to marry his now-pregnant stepsister. Seeking revenge on his dying father, Jan Dara agrees to marry her for a price: the compound. Upon his return, he becomes obsessed with three women: his westernized stepmother, his manipulative stepsister, and his chaste classmate, who is also a life-long love. Now the master of the house, Jan Dara makes his father witness his triumphs and unwittingly becomes the man he dreads the most.
