The xx release their third album, I See You, on the 13th January 2017 via Young Turks. I See You is the follow up to The xx?s two previous albums - xx and Coexist - both gold certified in Canada, having sold over 3 million copies globally between them, winning a host of accolades along the way. I See You marks a new era for the London trio of Romy Madly Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith, both sonically and in terms of process. For while xx and Coexist were both made in relative isolation in London, I See You was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Marfa TX, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London, and is characterised by a more outward-looking, open and expansive approach. Produced by Jamie Smith and Rodaidh McDonald, I See You is The xx at their boldest, performing with more clarity and ambition than ever before. ?The results are perfect - poised and prettily sad and as full of the trio?s musical DNA as ever, but a refreshing step on from when we last met.? - NME ??On Hold? may be about carelessly letting someone slip away, but their collective grasp is sure, and thrilling.? - Pitchfork ?It?s just about the grandest return I could imagine from this band.? - Stereogum ?The London band's new song is called "On Hold." It features the familiar, hushed back-and-forth singing between old friends Romy Madly Croft and Oliver Sim, but producer Jamie Smith, has lifted the band's black veil and embraced a brighter, friendlier pop sound. Those beats ... I swear they feel like a heart pumping 126 times a minute.? - NPR ?(No one) could have predicted the curveball The xx have thrown with their sprawling return, ?On Hold?. Not only have they written a sunny, cockles-warming slab of euphoria that wouldn?t sound entirely out of place on a Hall & Oates record, they?ve even directly sampled the pesky pop duo!.? - DIY featuring a debossed mirri-board sleeve.
