The East Side Kids Meet Bela Lugosi (as the film is also known) in this hilarious horror-comedy featuring the lovely young Ava Gardner, later an Academy Award nominee for Mogambo, in one of her earliest roles. Mugs McGinnis (Leo Gorcey), Glimpsy Williams (Huntz Hall) and the boys are preparing for the wedding of Glimpsy's sister Betty (Gardner) and Jack Gibson (Rick Vallin), who have just bought an old country house. Planning to surprise the couple by fixing up the place, the boys accidentally end up at the "haunted" house next door, where Nazi spy Emil (Lugosi) and his gang are printing propaganda booklets for the "New Order." Directed by the legendary William "One-Shot" Beaudine (Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla), this 1943 Monogram entry was the second encounter between Bela and the Kids, following 1941's Spooks Run Wild.
